Looking for some comments on these, this is my first try at this. Be brutal!

Your Lab is out of Focus(Btw I have an 8 month old lab your brave to have your camera near water and the dog I've had some close encounters)
The Winter Scene looks like it was taken with a Point & shoot (sorry)
What Gear are you using when your taking these photo's ??

The first photo needed some -Exposure Compensation.
I really like the second photo...is it cropped or is it the entire photo?

I like the second also. A wider view would have even helped it some, if possible.
Number 1 just didnt work. OOF. Underexposed. Bad composition (I know it is tough in that situation), but just didnt work for me. Love labs...have a chocolate 8 years old, black 3 years old, and yellow 2 years old.

Two has potential, I like it :) Get that lab outside in the summer, then you'll get some good shots. I'd say get him out in the snow... but that will be an exposure nightmare for you if you're new at this :)

Personally, I think labs are best photographed having fun.

Thanks for the comments.
For equipement I am using a 30D with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. This is my first attempt with this, I am still trying to learn the camera as well as how to take better photos its a lot more difficult than I anticipated.
The snow picture was a crop, I dont really know much about Photoshop and the lens had a snow flake on it when I took the picture so I couldn't remove it, which is why it was cropped. Below is the full size image.

Take more photos of the lab, he's cute. Maybe try when he is playing or resting, without the bath/hands. Puppies grow up fast =P
The snow shot is quite nice, beautiful trees. I'd try to deepen the shadows a bit in processing. Easiest way to do it is probably with curves in Photoshop.

Yes Sir. She is staring at me.
I like it. If I were going to change anything, I would keep her nose as well as eyes in focus and let the DOF tail off as it goes beyond her head. So a little more DOF, but that is a great example of a shallow DOF. Nose out of focus, eyes sharp, and tails off beyond.
Gotta love labs. Shes beautiful.

To your recommendation I was actually trying to get her nose and eyes in focus and the rest out of focus, but I could only seem to get either her nose or her eyes in focus not both. Whats the best way to achieve what you suggested?
