What is the best Colorama paper colour for portraiture?

I know a lot of people will say white, but I'm wondering if it's such a good idea to purchase that instead of a charcoal or smoked colour of some description.

Does anyone have experiece shooting on Colorama, and if so, what colour do you find gives you the most flexibility and options?
