Still getting the hang of id'ing hawks, so if I'm wrong let me know.
I pulled into one of my Companies remote sites and saw this guy/girl sitting on a downed tree. It was pretty overcast and low light, so the pics not the greatest.
Slightly cropped, USM and other PS stuff.

Or.. it has a hint of the Goshawks distinct white eyebrow..?
It's one or the other for sure.

Picky, picky, picky.
It is a nice photo indeed.

Beautiful shot!
Looks like a Cooper's to me... can't say for sure without seeing the tail and feet better. Did you hear him scream? That will tell you for sure - Cooper's squawk like a Parrot.

Very nice shot, Cooper's hawks and sharp-shin hawks are very similar.

Nice capture, hard to tell the species without seeing the backside.

Cooper's Hawk, I would guess.
But what do I know. I am a photographer, not an ornithologist.

Thanks everyone! I don't know if size matters, but I would say about 14inches head to tail.
LP, the bird never made a sound. Just looked around and flew off.

My Sibley's book says that the Cooper's Hawk is 16.5" in length. A Sharpie is 11". Northern Goshawk is 21".
