M43 Believer. Ditch your GX's!

I love Canon. All my professional gear has been canon related and I've even owned a G10.

However, I'd been longing for a small camera that packs a punch... not so much compact in the sense you can stick it in your jean pocket, but compact enough to not feel like you are holding down pounds of gear.

After the G10 and LX3 failed my needs, I tried out a Sigma DP2. Though quality was excellent, the operation began to where me down.

Next, I finally found what I was looking for in the Olympus E-P1 and would like to share my thoughts on the camera. One of my major needs for this small of a camera was the ability to produce pretty good bokeh and I gotta say, I've very impressed:

My current combo is the E-P1 with the Lumix 20mm f/1.7. This lens, with IBIS is just stunning and sharp at 1.7. Amazing, I can't believe it.

Anyway, if you're like me and looking for something small that will not leave you feeling like you messed up by not taking your canon dslr + lens with you, you should check out the micro four thirds camp.

quality shots. how were the pictures before you got the lumix glass - with the kit lens?

I had the 17mm kit lens and though still pretty good, I didn't quite get enough dof for my liking with it's 2.8 aperture.

Nice shots man, I have considered getting an m4/3 camera for my bag to carry everywhere (Along with the 20mm f/1.7)

The 45mm macro looks cool too to be honest :)

Are you using the accessory viewfinder?

The view finder is only on there when I wanna look a little cooler than I am haha... honestly, no I don't use it. I've tried and focus was hit or miss.

I'm still in the 'justifying-phase' because I already have 2 dslr's :)

Btw: Noktor is going to release a 50mm f0.95 (!!) for the m43 mount.

I saw the sample images someone on eBay took to demonstrate one of them, it may be f/0.95 but its complete and utter garbage in terms of optical performance, soft (ok i expect that) and full of more CA than you can correct for most likely..looked like a Holga

Which i suppose some people might want, but i know id be more apt to pony down for an older rangefinder lens instead of that...

Yes, but that's just "pre-production". I am sure tweaking and adjusting will iron out a few wrinkles. Because no one will pay for it unless it gives photographers a boost over and above current offerings.

Great images OP... Whether it is m43 or another format from other rivals, the mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras will surely be the next big thing. Small bodies with a big sensor is pretty compelling. And add to that the flexibility of changeable lenses, you can have a very light kit for leisurely travels or family outings. Now all m43 needs is a native fast portrait lens...

E-P1 and 20/1.7. What a combo. I'm tired of lugging my 1D and 28/1.8 around. 95% of my photography is grab-n-go. Photojournalist-styled memory-capturing. I think your combo can effectively replace mine. And I wont suffer from tennis elbow or get strange looks!

This is true and a pleasant surprise for me... People don't notice me as much when I shoot with the GF1 + 20mm. I think this format is great for street photography and photo-journalism, not unlike the Leicas that Cartier-Bresson endeared so much: small and unobtrusive.

looks like Panasonic is listening... There is a patent for built in EVF for maybe GF2?! I probably will not hesitate when that comes out to replace my XSi. Sorry Canon.

I'd rather see more fast native m43 primes. A fast portrait lens is sorely missing.

I had the pleasure to play with an EP-2 and EP-1 recently, Both were FANTASTIC cameras and impressed me a whole great deal...The EVF on the EP-2 was especially memorable, That thing was a peach!
