I am currently now awaiting my new G3! My question is, as I understand it, the new lensmate can be an option of a 52mm or a 58mm. I was thinking I would go with the 52mm so I could get a step down ring so I can use all my 49mm filters from my G2. Will that work? I also have the Canon Teleconverter...can I get a step up ring for that to fit as well?
Thanks all,
Lai Lai

The answer to your question is yes, but with limitations.

I use my Hoya 49mm diopters with the 52mm LensMate on my G3.
Using a 52-58mm step-up ring my TC-DC58 and TCDC58N both work well with the 52mm LensMate.
LensMate sells step up/down rings that work with most accessories including the Canon TC and 49mm filters.

A 49mm UV or polarizer filter mounted on the 52mm LensMate with the step-down ring obtained from LensMate does not cause any vignetting at full wide angle. BUT, if the polarizer is added on top of the UV filter there is vignetting at full wide angle.

For a comparison of the vignetting which occurs when using a Canon TC-DC58 or 58N at less than full zoom check my site. http://www.iaw.com/~pturton/

The purpose of the bayonet mount is to allow quick and easy change of lenses. I recommend an adapter for each regularly used configuration... 58mm for the TC, a 52mm for macro and a 52mm for UV, polarizer or lenshood.

Cheers,
Paul

Thank you for your response. It helped out a great deal.
I have contacted Lens Mate and my 52mm, and some rings are on the way!
