In reading here on P.O.T.N., it seems the software of choice is Adobe Photoshop CS. However, I'm not sure my budget can go that far. (Also my computer needs upgrading, first.) I currently have a very old version of Adobe PhotoDeluxe 3.0 (Business Edition), which I've been pleased with. I have looked at Photoshop Elements 3.0, but I don't know if this will do all that I want or need. Looking for help with comparison? How much difference is there between these programs? Does the expensive version do that much more? Maybe I need a version somewhere between? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I have PSE3 and it is very capable for all but the most advanced stuff and you can add back a lot of the functionality of CS (such as Curves, channel mixer etc) using add-ons and plug-ins - see PS Sticky thread.
MY suggestion would be to go for PSE3 at the moment and then if you find it inadequate you have an upgrade path to CS/CS2!

I'm definately leaning toward PSE3. Thanks for your input. :-)

Depending on what you need to do after taking the pix.... there are plenty of FREE photo softwares out there that do a great job. Irfanview also accepts photoshop plug-ins. The GIMP. XNview. Free = what do you have to lose? = try them out.
