Would you pre-order a camera from a guy that can't even spell correctly, much less get the price right? Especially if it's from Ritz-off, the same people who took hundreds of orders for the D60 and then cancelled them without notifying the prospective buyers........I DON'T THINK SO! Ritz is reknowned for ripping people off.
Think again.

Ritz is not that bad and thanks to ritz I was one of the first to get my D60 when others were waiting months and months and some are still waiting for theres who could not get the D60. So over all not bad at all. I have orderd form the guy on this page and if I have a problem I will post it here. By the way you can always cancel your order if you do not like there price. Good luck and happy sooting. I hope this cameras A/F system is better thant the D60's. This is one of the cameras bigest porblems.

Evan- I just heard that the 10D also under-exposes and who knows what other problems it may have. I'm sure that it is not without flaw....and the first batch of them to come out are usually the worst.
The dissection of it will start here - as soon as someone has one in their hand!

Well I must say that Gino at ritz camera is very helpful to me and I now have 2 on order with him. Try it out free shipping and no tax thats great deal. I like saving money and do not want to pay the State any tax as they we all pay to much in taxes as it is.

I did place an order with Ritz but my ship date keeps moving to the right. It has slipped 1 week during the past 1 week. I have not been able to get an assessment of whether this is a real slip or just an order system problem. I ordered on March 3.

Hello the date you see on the order status is incorrect and you need to call and speak with gino he will help. I talked with him and he told me that they will be getting cameras this week late or next week early. The computer system is not correct on ship dates at all. Have a great day.

I pre-ordered From Ritz. Has anyone actually gotten a camera from them? I am ammused by the fact that everyday I check my order status it bumps back by a day..... I wonder if I'll see them on the store shelves before they actually ship from Ritz....

I just got off the phone with Ritz Camera. They only got 25 10D's in their first shipment from Canon. They were expecting many more. That quantity would barely clean out the D60 pre-order customers. They also told me that by 2pm PST 2/27 they had received 100 orders. They currently have 1300 orders. All 25 cameras they received were sent to their MD warehouse. They normally ship out of GA and KS. They do not know when they will receive another shipment. They do not know how large their next shipment will be. All of this explains why even someone like me who ordered am 2/27 still doesn't have a camera. In frustration I checked with a NYC camera shop that I have bought from in the past and they haven't received their first camera yet. I also checked with a small dealer in OK and they have 36 orders and no cameras yet. I guess it pays to stick with the big guys like B&H. My mistake.

I am not sure we can but the blame of Ritz Camera. Canon did say that they will not repeat the D60 order problems. As you can see Ritz was expecting a much larger shipment. Alot of people were very surprised by the low amount of cameras they have received form canon. Some have not even gotten the shipment that they were expecting. I think in the next few weeks we will see alot more canons on the way. Or so I hope.
The 10th was the first ship date so I guess next week they will ship lots more 10D cameras. Lets wait and see.

Picked up my new D10 yesterday. It was ordered last week. The salesman told me they ordered three and did not expect them until this coming week, but he called me this past Thursday and it was there. All three were ordered units.
I am coming from using a G2 and G3, other than Nikon slrs, so I have a lot of experimenting to do. But so far the focus in low light seems very quick, but again, I do not have experience with the D60.
But the quality feels good and it is charged, fired up and I have taken just a couple of shots and it feels capable of great pictures, I am really looking forward to getting to know my way around it.

I just canceled my order with ritz camera .com they keep telling me that it is only the camera body and not the kit. For $1499.00 that is the kit price for the camera at all other web sights so why not at ritz? Also they have not idea when or how many the will get. So I have placed my order with B&H in new york to put and end to all the I do not know problems of Ritz Camera .com. To bad Gino is a really nice guy but it's not personal. B&H got an order of 300 10D units and Ritz got only 25 cameras so I do not want to keep waiting. I usually order form B&H anyway so I know they are on the ball with ship times and orders. So good luck with your order.

well, the ritz page says Canon 10D body but if you scroll down to the what's included section it lists the contents of the Canon 10D kit. I hope that they are selling the camera as a kit because that was how they represented it to me over the phone and on the web site. This all may soon be a moot point to me as I am looking as of today for another retail outlet for a 10D. I tried to use Ritz as a way to support a web site that has been very useful to me but I think instead I'll just send the guy a donation. Ritz has bumped back my shipping date by a day every day since I placed my order. My mistake for ordering with Ritz.....Live and learn I guess...Maybe I should learn to stick with big boys like Calumet, Samys or B&H.

I agree! Ritz produces very hunger aggressive sales people, without much to back them. I’ve been an advertising photographer for over ten-year and only buy from the big guys. I bought my 10D from Calumet – received it on Thursday.
PS I’m the "would had been 7 on the list" that GINOCICIOTTE refereed to, glade I opted out.

Although I paid $100 more than the internet price, I found that my local camera shop had recieved five 10 D on Friday. At 11 AM today I purchased the 4th of these units and walked out the door. The camera is a quamtum leap from the D30 I have had for two years.
Two years ago the local photoshop would only order a D30 and I was told there would be at least a month wait until I recieved the camera, so I purchased on the internet. Both Canon and the local shop seem to have it right this time.

So I got off the phone with a customer service guy from Ritz just now....I asked him what the deal really was with the sliding dates and camera availablity. Of course he claims there is another shipment on the way and that they should be shipping in a few days and the the earth *is* actually quite flat (not at all round like we have been lead to believe) and a whole load of other nonsense..... I asked him bottom line...Why should I not cancel my order? He had no answer... speaking of, Gino hasn't had alot to say since people placed orders with him....funny....
So now my question is this, do I pay $1599.00 plus tax at my local camera shop and get the camera in two days or do I wait until Ritz gets them in stock which could be tomorrow or 6 months from now. Getting it from Ritz would be a savings of over $232.00. That is a Microdrive or a vertical grip and spare battery.....I am not made of money, this is truly frustrating.

I was hoping this wouldn't be the mess we went through with the D60, but alas.... Lets see...it seems that the dealers are getting 6-30 of these things in every two weeks. They have to come from Japan, get through customs- go to Canon and be shipped through the dealer network.
The rumor that there are 10,000 of them in a Canon warehouse just goes against common sense. You keep the price (and profits) up by delivering our drugs (I mean digital cameras) slowly. Even fabricating 100 per day -they would have had to be producing/stockpiling them for 6 months already. Very unlikely.
So, if Ritz gets a flow of even double the norm (100/mo.) (and there is no reason that they should) then even if they stop taking orders right now- they will not be able to fill all the orders before the next Canon DSLR is released next year.
Which means, I better get off their list and go to my local dealer.
What a mess!

Yes bob very true it's seems to be an other D60 like mess. More demand and less cameras available. B&H got 300 10D units the largest amount yet. I canceled my order with ritz they have been very miss leading. Good luck bob.

True Evan- I just killed my Ritz order using the chat window on their site and went with my local dealer- Precision Camera. Same price, but I'll have to pay $125 in tax. It is better than waiting till summer! oh...did I leak something? Yes, you can be #14 on their list if you order now..but you have to put 50% down to get on the pre-paid prefered list. Even their normal list is only in the 20's. They are good guys and have a great web-site.
I really look forward to forgetting about this buying process.

The girl at the camera store called me last night as I was about to head home, the camera showed up early! I got my 10D last night when I was expecting not to get it til today. My first impressions are really favorable. Just the feel alone is a quantum leap from the D60.

Have you guys tried your local camera stores to get a 10D? Well, you have to pay sales tax but there is instant gratification waiting for you..... Anyway, I am pretty sure smaller camera stores get less allotment but they deal with less buyes. I got mine right away, and the big stores with whom I asked to be put on the waiting list still have not contacted me. Just a suggestion.

I just placed my order over the phone at ritz.com and the guy told me that they expect my camera kit shipped just after tax time. I fortunately have another Canon film camera I can use and also a G2. So I can be patient with even if that slips a month or so. I have the option of canceling if they are late.
I was going to wait for more reviews to come in but being the techie I am I wanted the latest and greatest right away. boy this whole digital SLR thing is like PCs, now that we have the fastest, another faster better PC will be out in a year and we want to continually trade up. I don't even make any money off the photos I take!!! Geez.

Ritzcamera.com told me April 19 for delivery. I placed a 10D order at jandr.com and it shipped last Friday. Gateway.com also has some, but if you're in the USA you might have to pay sales tax depending on your state.
And since I'm jumping in here :), the 10D is my first Canon after 30 years with Nikon. I'm deciding on my primary lens, which will be my only lens until I get comfortable and learn a lot about the camera. I mostly shoot landscapes, travel photography and my coral reef aquariums. I'm deciding between:
a) 28-105 USM f4-5.6
b) 28-105 USM II f3.5-4.5
c) 28-135 IS USM f3.5-5.6
Price is not the consideration, although I'm not ready to jump into an L series until I'm used to the 10D.
c) has image stabilizing which sounds pretty important, but at 18.9 oz it's the heaviest. a) is only 7.4 oz, and it's an inch shorter than c). BUT a) only has 10 elements vs. 15 for b) and 16 for c).
I'm leaning towards b) as a decent compromise because weight/size and quality.
From anyone's experience, is Image Stabilization really significant? Is a) that much worse as a lens with only 10 elements?
Thanks in advance,
Dennis

My tip is go with the 28-135 IS. I have done testing against my 50mm 1.8, 100mm 2.0 macro and Sigma 20mm...and the zoom performed very well. For example- it's numbers are significantly better than the Canon 17-35 L zoom.
The pictures are still available here:
http://www.esb.utexas.edu/nagy/d60/
To get the best quality out of the lens, don't go under F4 or over 120mm.
The IS can help you take your best pictures. Natural light shots at 1/30th or less - Hand-held- are a big plus. Build quality on the lens is not pro- but fine for all but harsh use.
They go for about $330 on Ebay.
Enjoy-
Bob
Congrats Evan- I am still on the waiting list at my local dealer.
