Well this is my budget I know I won't be getting a markins or anything that nice but is there anything within this range that will support my 500d gripped normal lenses attached? I've been racking my brain and am currently looking at the manfrotto heads but I am hearing that quality isn't like it used to be and all that. Arregh

FWIW, I purchased the Manfrotto 498RC2 about three weeks ago and I must say I really like it. The heaviest lens/camera combo I've used on it so far is a gripped 50D + 100/2.8 macro and thus far, I've experienced none of the "creeping" or slipping that others mentioned about the earlier 488RC2. I believe the addition of the friction knob to the 498 has helped in that regard -- it has for me anyway.
Good luck in your search.

I picked up a Manfrotto 322RC2 ball head and couldn't be happier for what I was looking for. It's going for around $130.00 on amazon where I bought mine. My only gripe is the inability or difficulty of taking pano shots. Hope this helps

488rc2 is a great ballhead at a great price point. It suits your budget and your kit. The only problem is the little droop with heavy lenses if you care about precise composition. I guess they have addressed thew problem now? Not sure about the new ones from Manfrotto

I have taken about 1000 shots now with my 498RC2. At its price point I don't think there is anything that can touch it.

10 dollars more, made better, smaller, light and supports over triple the weight.
Also, having full custom plates for each camera is nice.

This, and a Feisol Traveller is my next big purchase. I hope it's a good combo.
