I was fortunate enough to see this 1954 vintage Convair 440 Metropolitan, N153JR. It's now used as a cargo plane doing island hopping from places like St. Thomas & St. Croix to SXM. I got to test out my Canon 5D2's HD video while using a Rode external stereo video microphone as this a/c was landing (buzzing me) ! Incredible experience. The sound of those big recips being pulled back to idle as it crossed the fence, the big pistons (jugs) unwinding, the props slowing down but still grabbing at the air was an amazing sound. I love to play the video and just listen to that sound.

These shots were taken with an XSi with a 24-105 mm f4 lens. FYI, the wingspan is roughly 105 feet. They're about 50 ft above the water. They dragged it in. A low and flat approach then buzzed me as they crossed the beach. Loved it!

I'll have to edit the video to make it more upload friendly since it was shot in HD video and high resolution. It is not on YouTube yet. I'll have to ask the kids for help with that subject since they are experts at putting their videos online.
