The wife and I will be traveling to TX this month and I will be shooting a lot of outdoor/beach pictures and I was wondering if it is OK to stack filters?

I am picking up a Hoya UV filter as a general purpose “protect the lens” filter but would like to experiment with a Hoya CP filter.

Can I use both the UV filter and CP filter at the same time “stacked” without issue?

We will be traveling with kit lens on a 300D, Canon 75-300 IS USM and the "nifty-fifty".

the general rule of thumb is to only use the filter you absolutely have to. the more filters you stack on the more chances of getting flares and generally lower image quality.

for that reason, i usually take off the UV protector before putting on a CP.

You can use both if you want. I normally remove the UV filter when I use the polarizer... I don't know of any reason to leave the UV in place and it just adds another surface for light to bounce around on...

As others said, you CAN use two filters without vignetting, but I wouldn't use more than one. When you use CPL, you can just remove your UV. It may take extra minute, but that's all..
