I have two tripods that broke. One is Bogen (now Manfrotto). One of the metal ! things on one of the legs broke off, two of the plastic tighteners broke in the winter and the key that tightens the middle shaft fell off. So I'm not real high on those even though everybody here loves them. I know mine is a much older model.

I would like:
-aluminum (I have a very bad back)
-goes low, upside down shaft, legs extend outwards etc. for macro etc.
-can hold an XSi with grip and fairly heavy Sigma 28-70 f/2.8
-I don't need a ball head
-under $75 (that's the tough part)

I don't know anything about brands these days. I used to be a pro, quit and am active again for my own enjoyment.

What do you think of these top two and the Sunpak?

or any others? Thanks.

Anybody? Sorry if I offended with Manfrotto remarks. Thanks for any help. Maybe this is impossible.

I was just looking for a travel tripod for myself and someone recommended Slik Sprint Pro:
http://www.amazon.com/Slik-Sprint-Tripod-Metal-Release/dp/B002821ESU

It won't work for me (4.4 lbs load capacity, while I need mine for windy conditions and therefore might need to add extra balast for stabilization), but the reviews seem good otherwise and... read the first review at Amazon, it does specifically mention that the tripod goes down low. It's $84.95, so just a bit over the budget you specified, but I think that might be closest to the price/features combo for you.

Thanks Rodent (I've never said that without it being derogatory). I hadn't seen that one and it looks pretty good. I'm putting it on my list.
