Hi ...
I have a couple of SLRs and am thinking of trading one for a G Series as sometimes you just don't want the big unit hanging around your neck..
The G series seem to be the most popular back uo units for pro SLR shooters
B4 i proceed to sell or trade i must ask is there any lag time between pressing the shutter button and the actuation ??

I'm getting ready to buy the G11, and I too look in to specs like this. The G series cameras are like most point and shoot models, meaning they will not give you instant response when you press the shutter release button. Do not expect the same response you have in a DSLR.
The G11 review on DCR (http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=4131&p=2) says, "AF acquisition times in good light with no pre-focus ran about 0.38 seconds - times lengthened a bit in dim conditions but the G11 has a focus assist lamp. Shutter lag came in at 0.03 seconds." The 0.38 seconds is from just pressing the button. The 0.03 is if you half-press to allow pre-focusing first.
The G series, or any point and shoot, will not equal the response times of DSLRs in sports/action situations (like quick moving grandkids).
I have the G9, so I'm sort of used to it, and try to preplan by using the half-press method, if possible.

Yes, and at times it can be annoying, but such is
the price for pocketicity. By and large these cameras can do 80% of what their bigger brothers can do. When you're carrying your G Series, avoid that 20% and you'll do just fine.

edit: Problem Solved!
Happy customer at Henry's Mississauga. I have a new G11 now.
I've had a G9 and now a G11. I find myself losing photo ops with the G11 because I'm slower with that camera.
Probably because I store the screen turned in, to protect the screen.
Otherwise the tilt-out is my favourite feature on the camera.

Sorry to hear you're having problems with the G11. I owend the G9 as well with a Franiec grip which improved the grip substantially. I have medium size hands (I guess) and did not have any problems adapting to gripping the G11. Haven't followed your thread regarding time and date issues..but no problem here..I'll take a peak and see if I have anything useful to offer

Tom==problem has been solved with the help of Nigel who posts here.
Henry's Mississauga stepped up and replaced the camera after I bought an extended warranty. Win-win for me.
Thanks to Nigel!
Thanks to Damon at Henry's Mississauga.

You really want the S90, it actually fits into the pocket, and is identical to the G11, except it's alot smaller!

I just got a G11, and find that it is quite a bit faster than my A630.
