getting started with weddings

How would I go about finding an apprenticeship with a portrait/wedding photographer in my area? I'd like to start doing weddings for spending money, but I'm not confident yet in my abilities.

I'd ask around... check the yellow pages and call and ask if you could work as an assistant and second shooter. Start out offering just free work (and get paid for any prints sold) and once you get more skilled, ask for payment. I think many might jump uppon having a "free" assistant, and once they see you are getting them some income, I'm sure they will offer you some money too.

If not just ask if you can tag along and see and learn, if they don't want you to take pictures right away.
