I wouldn’t screw around with one at a stoplight if I were you!
It’s Garry’s very ordinary looking ’51 Chevy, running a .060 over bored 454 engine. World Products heads; roller rocker Crane cam; Turbo 400 BNM 3,000 rpm Stahl converter trans; 9” Ford positrack 3:70 rear end.

So... you got beat by a ’51 Chevy?? :D:D:D

I'm guessing with the exhaut system, it doesn't SOUND like a sleeper.:)

Two questions - What are the bullet-shaped chrome things mounted near the lower corners of the windshield, and what's the fan for in the left fenderwell?

Nice "SLEEPER" Frank. From your description I'd say He's a bit overloaded in the horsepower to tire ratio though, especially with Built Big Block torque & power going through a 3000 RPM stall converter. YIKES! ;)

I'd say He's a bit overloaded in the horsepower to tire ratio though, Gently does it! I've seen a guy with the huge tires go spinning down the freeway in the rain, so I think he's made a good choice! ;-)

That's a fine looking old Chevy. As usual, nice work Frank.

What are the bullet-shaped chrome things mounted near the lower corners of the windshield, and what's the fan for in the left fenderwell? Sorry, Curtis, I forgot to answer that. The bullet-shaped chrome things are spotlights. A lot of early cars had them. Cop cars, salesman's cars, etc.
I don't know what the fan was for.

Thank's, guys!

I don't know what the fan was for.
Considering the Heat that an engine like that produce's, and being wedged into the smaller confines of an engine bay that was designed for a straight six (Notice the trans dip stick up against the header?), I'll take a wild leaping guess that the fan is there to extract heat from the engine compartment. ;)

Frank,

as usual, a true gem brought to us by you :D

Thanks for sharing!

One question ... how do they get that deap luster in the black paint?
Do you have to wax that car every other day?

Best regards,
Andy

Thanks, Andy. If I remember correctly, there's a layer of Clearcoat over the paint job, so I'd guess minimal waxing is required.
Part of that "deep luster" is a result of the late, low contrast lighting. ;-)

True, but if there were a greasy fingerprint or muddy cat's paw on the car, it would really stick out

I guess loving care from the owner's side and utmost dedication from the photographers side work together to make a great shot.

Do you also sell your pictures to the owners? I bet they love them.

Best regards,
Andy

True, but if there were a greasy fingerprint or muddy cat's paw on the car, it would really stick out :D:D:D What would stick out would be the red puddle on the ground where the offender had been standing! ;)

You don't touch these cars. EVER.
Some have small signs. Some are painted on like the "DO NOT FOLDLE THE ELEPHANT" on this one. (Elephant = Hemi)

Do you also sell your pictures to the owners? Simple answer is no. I do this 'cause I like to.
Let me tell you about these guys. 2 weeks before the Cruise last year I wanted to get a nice shot of a car to use as a sample. I offered 4 owners this deal. Come to a mall parking lot between 8-8:30 & we'll take some pics. I'll give you a free 12X18 just for helping me out. Guess how many took me up on the deal?

So, at my rock bottom price to shoot one & deliver a print for $150 is sort out of the question. Even for a guy who has 6 cars & the lowest one is appraised for $46,000.
They can get a poster sized shot at some shows for $20, or a t-shirt for $30, so why try to compete with that? I just tell them $150 when they ask so they'll leave me alone. I do give them the url of some shots so they can steal them if they'd like. Most think I haven't figured that out! :D:D
I did make a wallet size print to give to one guy, just 'cause he was so helpful, but I've sworn him to silence!
;)
