Did a few tests today after suspecting a focus issue.
Both shots are in AV mode F2.8, lens is 50mm 1.8 (have tried with kit lens and got similar result.

AF again, focused on the central black line.
sorry, was in a hurry and not sized right for posting here.
Would appreciate any advice and/or tips.
Are the tests conclusive enough to warrant sending the camera to canon?

it would appear so......this caught my eye because i am currently going through the task of determining whether or not to send in my new 70-200f/4L that is backfocusing at 70mm, but is perfect from 100-200mm.
not an expert by any means, but am certainly used to looking at the targets.
if you did everything to the "T", then i would say you have a FF conditon.

It looks loke it to me, too. I tried it with just a ruler at 45 degrees to illustrate DOF for a class.

i'd go out and shoot some scenes where you can see what's really going on. my supposedly backfocusing 70-200 gave me some results that contradicted the charts i was shooting, and in one shot it was spot on.
here is a shot from my lens that showed it hit the flower ball just behind the ball i was targeting (the 2 tallest in center) it hit about a couple inches off

but then here is a shot that it hit it's target

another test (old but was reliable) was to place 3 ceral boxes about 2 inches apart, and stagger them so that one is about 2 inches behind the center box and the other box on the other side is about 2 inches in front.
take a shot of the center box and see what it looks like...........
there is anexample on this page where the guy used phones for this test, but it'll give you the idea
