EOS1DMK2, 70~200L f2.8 zoom, difficult to photograpth they hardly stop moving, they seem to play all day long, took 7 shots to get these two pics so quite pleased with hit rate :-)

Tracking must have been difficult, they don't exactly fly in a straight line. Great shots Martin.

Yes tried to track them but there so fast so i watched there movements back and forth across this small pond and realised they seemed to fly in the same pattern so i prefocused on an area near to me where they turned to go back and waited for the right moment when they slowed down turning thats the only chance to get any sort of focus on them

PS: i have noticed this behavior as well, i think that they find a territory and fly back and forth on it for awhile, or unitl a strong Dragon comes along to take over the spot. I watched a big bugger gaurd a spot for alomst 15 mins, until he got jumped 2 smaller ones.

Actualy if your in the right place when they jump one another that realy slows them down, this picture although not that good, shows how they hang on, goona have another go this weekend weather permitting see if i can get closer to them, this time i will take my welly boots :-)

I was chasing dragonflies this weekend as well. Needless to say, I have nothing to compare to these. Amazing shots!

There taken in a small wooded area on Otley chevin and i can tell you its a fantastic place for all types of insects, infact most of my post over the last few weeks have been taken there, maybe as in your PM we could met up somewhere and i will show you where its :-)
