I just wanted to know if this is normal and if there's something I can do to prevent it; my new canon 300d is peeling on the right side where the hand grip is towards the bottom. I've only had the camera for about 3 months and like the thin rubber grip layer. Is there anything I can do about it?

I had same problem, I brought to Local Camera shop and they added some epoxy and fixed me up for abt 4 dollars and change, I also emailed Canon what I had done to ensure they take care in future cams..

Interesting, was the rubber scratched or marked in the area or did it just lift and start peeling? I had my 300D for one and half years with no such problem. Could be worth a warranty claim, you wouldn't want it getting worse.

it just started to lift and peel. Epoxy ... what's that? I look to see if I can get that then. It was a bit annoying, and I don't use it everyday.

If you have a tendency to have sunscreen, lotion or moisturizers on your hand, that will cause that peeling pretty fast

Thats an error in the processing of the TPR over the plastic substrate/ metal.
There are many reasons for bad overmold TPR. If applied correctly in the intial process, there should be no problem.
Ive worked many years in injection molding and with overmolding. Lotion and skin oil should not cause the applied overmold to peel off, extreem heat may.:o

1-1/2 years without seeing the problem on mine.

well, I don't use moisturizers *blushes*, but on that day specifically that I first noticed it I did use a lot of 'off bug repellant', could that have done it? Is there something I can get to repair/fix the molding?

"I did use a lot of 'off bug repellant'" This certainly could be the culprit. DEET (chemical name, N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) is the active ingredient in many insect repellent products. Is also a solvent for many plastic types of materials.
