I was out earlier and taking a few pictures... I was tracking some animals with my camera and taking a picture here and there, but never fully releasing the shutter (it was constantly at half-press) so the pictures couldn't review or anything. I shot probably 15-20 pictures (this is a rough guess) and when I let go and pressed Play, I couldn't review my pictures.... I looked up at the top LCD and saw the remaining number of pictures flashing at something like 428... I could still use auto focus and I could hear the mirror slap when I tried taking a picture, but couldn't do anything else.

I flipped the power switch off and then the orange read light on the back started flashing for a second or 2 then stopped.

I turned it back on and everything was fine... all my pictures were there that I took including the one where I just randomly snapped trying to find out what was wrong.

Everything seems fine now, but it just seemed kind of odd... has anyone else experienced anything like this?

This sounds like a problem i had once or twice since putting the BG-E2 on my 20D !

Had exactly the same issue, but mine kept flashing err99 and wouldnt let me review the pics. Took the batteries out, as the camera wouldnt switch off from the switch, held my breath because it said i had no pics on the CF, and actually had over 200 of an event that i couldnt take again! when the power went back on, all 200 pics were there and it hasnt done it since !

I've got the grip on there, I wonder if that's the problem-causer....

and actually, I had the err99 come up one time when I was at Busch Gardens... but I was able to just turn the power switch off and back on and it came back up just fine...

There are known issues with the BG-E2 ! In fact Canon USA have admitted it, Canon UK havent ! Although the issues arent what we have seen !

Although unrelated, my 20D has decided to play up too and is now in for service. The number of 'issues' seem to be alot more than that of the 300D when I researched bought that a year and half ago. Makes me wonder if Canon are slipping a little in terms of quality due to the increase in demand for DSLR's :( my 300D was faultless.

Hope nothing real bad comes of your problem mate.

thanks, I hope it'll be alright as well... I may send it in since they claimed they were going to do fixes for it, but according to that big thread I made back in December about the grip, some people have said Canon has requested the camera itself to mod it and the grip to fit together properly... I'm simply not willing to do that.
