would it be possible if i used my own auto focus LED? perhaps a hand held BRIGHTER and better LED?

they sell lots of those "keychain" bright leds...

do you think i could achieve a same effect if i pointed it in the same direction as the g3's led?

esp in dark areas and far away targets..

anyone?

has anyone seen the sony 717 Laser hologram af beam?

its superb... it projects a laser pattern on the target.. its range is very far!

i think i answered my own question...

if i get one of those hand held laser pointers (the ones that allow u to attach filters on to project patterns instead of a dot)

do u think i could use it to help aid AF for my g3?

i mean we all know G3s can't focus on non contrasting images like a white wall, so if i put the laser beam on the wall, and let ti focus, then take the shot, it should work shouldnt it?

The main concern with a laser pointer is the danger of hitting someone in the eye with it.
A focusing pen-lite similar to the Mag Lite works well at about 40 feet. Using a photo-transistor and a couple of switching transistors, this light source could be turned ON/OFF by the camera AF light.
