i think this has to be hands down the toughest critter i have ever tried to focus on.extremely small and fast moving like a hummingbird.

this one was much easier.he actually posed long enough for me.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/wolverinesr1/Forum%20Pics/CRW_4562-01.jpg
and finally a 100% crop of the same shot.

all of these were taken with the 75-300 wide open and at 300 MM

thanks witchy,
i was suprised to see this one back from page 2Don't know how these got all the way to page two. Wow. Great shots, Jeff.
Personally, I don't think a jillion years would be long enough for all this to "just happen."

Nice shot on the first! I've tried this before with the 100-400 L and I won't do that again. Maybe with the 70-200 f/2.8 I might try... Amazing that you did it with the 75-300! Well done!

I stood and watched several dragonflies out my den window this morning, (trying to "catch" a few hummer shots) and after watching their eratic flight I just said "No, not today." Besides, they were flying over the creek and I wasn't in the mood to get wet. hehe..... I didn't have much success with the hummers either. I knew I should have just stayed in bed!!!

Nice shots. Are the pix photoshoped? I also have a 75-300 IS and I try to build an album of the zoo in my garden. Now I know better what I can do ... when I learn enough. Thanks for your photos

i'm sorry to revive this old thread its not a shamless bump, but while double checking to make sure i dont post a picture that i might have already posted i ran across this thread.it went to page two so fast then witchy brought it back and for some reason i never seen the last 5 comments.
so i want to say thanks to scottes, tupe, kenny, richard, and duncan.
i couldnt let it go without saying thanks.i value everyones comments.
to answer duncan, no photoshopping was done other than cropping and resizing for the web.most processing was done in RSE

I'm envious. Those are really nice shots. If luck is with me, I might shoot a dragonfly or two this evening. / ~Sam
