Some interesting fact on the newly released EF 17-40L f/4

SRP in US for 17-40mm f/4 is USD 1,200

SRP in US for 16-35mm L f/2,8 is USD 2,400 (B&H Price $1,399.95)

Quality wise:

the new 17-40L's MTF:

at 17mm & 40mm

and 16-35L's MTF:

at 16mm and 35mm:

How to read MTF Chart (http://www.usa.canon.com/eflenses/lens101/glossary/index_l.html#mtf)

One interesting thing, did anyone notice that the diagonal angle of view of both lenses??

16-35L is 108°10’-63°
17-40L is 74°-29°

and interesting fact also 24-70L is 74°-29°!

17-40 L with the 1.6x crop factor is essentially a 27.2-64mm in the 35mm world.

Now, what's the effect of 74°-29° will have on a FF SLR/DSLR? Me just curious.

The specs for the 17-40 on the Canon web site clearly list the angle of view range incorrectly. It would be impossible for the 17-40 to have the same angle of view range as the 24-70.

These angle of view numbers are always given relative to a full-frame 35mm camera.
