Hey everyone, on monday I am doing a short shoot for a soccer brochure. It's a local indoor sports arena, and now they want me to provide them with HUGE prints for posters as well as pictures for the brochure. So.... here's the question.... never printed anything bigger than an 8x10 and I'm wondering if the 20D can handle prints as large as 20x30 inch and 24x36 prints?

If so, what do I need to do to get the best, clearest shots? Shoot ISO 100? Stuff like that?

Thanks for any help.

I do 20*30 prints to hang on my wall quite often - i'm just organising some now. The ones i've done so far were from my old 300D, and they came out excellent - if you stand too close you can see it's not perfect, but from a meter or more away they look great. I figure the 20D will do a little better. I've been told this place (http://www.elcocolor.com/hot_internet_only_specials.htm) does very good, very cheap prints, might be worth checking them out.

Shoot ISO100 if you have enough light, if not even if you're at ISO 400 do noise reduction - it does help even on the 20D. Also don't upside or resample it yourself, the RIP at the printing place will do a much better job than Photoshop.

The rule of thumb is that you should not expect to view a print at a closer distance than the diagonal dimension of the print. Then, it should look decent.

I regularly make poster size prints (16 X 20) for my shop with 1D. They look awsome as long as you find a good printer (preferably LightJet). I am sure that the 8MP 20D could easily do 20 X 30.

Great, thanks! That's good to hear! I figured it could, just wanted to make sure. But Tim, I'm pretty sure ISO 100 will get me the shutter speeds I need. I tested out the feild at the time of day I'll be shooting and I was getting speeds around 1/400th to 1/640th at f/4 ISO 100. If by some chance I do need faster speeds, would ISO 200 be alright? I can't run noise reduction on it... I have noise ninja, but no liscense for it so it's water marking everything.

I haven't done any 24X36 with my 20D but I have done 24X36 with my 10D quite often.
Try Calypso for lightjet printing. http://www.calypsoinc.com/

A few days ago I received a 18 x 24 poster of a photo shot with 300D.

I've done a few 20"x30" from my 20D and the quality has been amazing.

ISO 200 should be fine too.

Don't upsize yourself, read my post above (2nd in the thread) for why.
