CDS,
Those are fantastic. Where were those taken? What kind of exposure times were you working with?

Thanks Skippy,
I use a D60 that has been converted for IR... but you can use a Hoya r72 filter as well.
I Shoot RAW (an absolute must in this case) with a custom white balance to get an almost B&W image.. (with standard white balance everything is Red... Infra Red)
I convert to 8bit tiff using BreezeBrowser,. and tweek in PSCS
Usually just levels,. but also channel mixer and occasionally I'll sharpen with USM (but not allways)
The above were all taken with the 17-40mm f/4L

They were taken On Mt Olympus.. you need special invitation to go there ;)
But then.. with a name like Homer,. I'm sure they'll open the gates for you :)
Using a converted D60 my shutter times are really pretty fast.
I'd say I'm loosing only about two stops or less to the IR filter... since the IR high pass filter on the D60's CMOS has been removed.

a cold weird feel to the stately beauty all over

Thanks Marie.. I love your description :)
I kept thinking of the Apollo/Adonis episode of Start Trek when I saw these on the PC screen ;)
Kenny,
glad you like 'em :)
Duder,
Not too sharp really.. But I find that I don't want them too sharp. There's something subdued about the whole IR thing. These ones I played with levels and contrast to help get the colors to be a bit more vibrant... but when I convert to B&W instead.. I don't even like to do much with levels so that ther remain much softer and more subtle.
Here's another of the pillars;

Thanks Sandy! :) :0
I'm very glad to get your feedback :)
I'm really enjoying this more "creative" photography.. as opposed to the bird stuff which let's me be the technician I am at heart ...
I'm very interested in feedback on these.. as it's so new to me.
Here's the other post I did earlier ;

you should do more work like this, these are purely Magical and Divine at the same time. these are the kind of photos you see in art galleries, Very impressive.

I just read the thread where you asked Don E. for some pointers and such, ummm excuse me sir these are fabulous! Both yourself and Don do such wonderful and inspiring IR imagery. I wouldn't worry about your IR skill and talent, you've got man, you've got it. :) :) ................Joe

These are truly works of art--pretty G.D. good for a self-confessed tech-head. :) If I had a hat on, I'd take it off to you, sir.
I'd like to see the child in the lower right of #3 cropped out, though--the incredibly surreal quality of the place feels somehow disrupted by the presence of a contemporary person in the shot (although it would be interesting to see how a "ghost" image might read, if it's even possible to do that when shooting infra red).
Beautiful stuff, CDS.

Terry

I would have to agree. I'm very new to photography, but my work brings me into some VERY expensive homes with VERY expensive art and these remind me of something that I would see in those art collections. The kind of things I would never be able to afford, let alone have a place to put them to do them justice.
INCREDIBLE!!!

Incredible pics!!! I do have a question, did you modify the D60 yourself? I have been thinking about getting one for IR stuff too and I was wondering how hard it is to convert.

I am realy happy I've came across this post.
The smoothness and tones plus the amazing composition and detail, like the inclusion of a child and then the child and mother make this post mindblowing.
Realtime IR is fantastic, and I think you realy took advantage of it.
Look out Don. ;)

Very cool pictures. I've done quite a bit of IR experimenting with my Olympus cameras (and I thought that's what your subject line meant at first :lol: ), but I've always converted them to B&W. I think next time I'll play around with custom WB settings and see if I can get similar results.

JMAS,
