Not sure if this should go here or in Macro, but...
Saw this little lady outside the other night. I grabbed the closest camera I could find and shot her. Then she got to meet Mr. Broom.

Where was the spider warning?

Great shot, John....a little too good! After viewing I began checking the walls of my house for anything similar!

Thanks all for the comments! We used to get these even worse at a house we lived in a few years ago. There they nested in the garage and out on the patio. Not fun when you have kids... Usually I use a specific stick (aptly named "The Spider Stick" for dealing with them.

Not that I have ever seen, thankgod! We have a redback spider that looks similiar to your black widow but I'm not overly worried about them. It's the huntsmen and big hairy spiders here that scare the crap out of me. How venomous is the black widow, our redback is venomous but they are the type of spider that hides in dark places, you have to be unlucky to get bitten and it's rarely fatal!
Also was that a large spider, it look big, our redbacks are not a big spider :)

Cool shot. Witchy, these spiders are very similar to redbacks. Redbacks are responsible for a lot of bites each year. None has proved fatal since the discovery of an antivenom in 1956, but prior to that the bite was often fatal. Apparently they are still very painful though !

Yeah I have been told they are very painful, a friend of someone I know got bitten while working on his car, he's a big bloke and it knocked him silly for a while.
