Looking for a new tripod, anyone bought one or have any hands on experience? RRS has a great reputation and this new tripod looks well designed and USA made. Thanks.

So have you seen/used the RRS tripod? What Gitzo or Feisol are you suggesting as comparable?

i have seen them, i've been to RRS head quarters in San Luis Obisipo.
For that price, it's just wayyyyyyy to much...also, currently back ordered.
If getting a CF tripod, i would got with gitzo or feisol for the cost.

The price aside, can you say what you did not like compared to Gitzo?

Would you say it's comparable to the 3 or 5 series Gitzo?

There's a fairly thorough going-over of the specs here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=761390&highlight=TVC-33). It seems to compare pretty favorably on paper to the Gitzo 3531 except in price.

Thanks Jon, apparently not many in use yet.

Wow. Well I see the specs, and I know the name (RRS) BUT what I cant see is why I would spend MORE money on a tripod than the tried and true and always top of the line Gitzo for a new tripod from a company that has never really made one before.
IMO this is the equivalent of Kia making a $100,000 luxury car. Whoa whoa whoa, you gotta crawl before you walk! Get a few lower priced (like HALF the price at least) options out there on the market to prove youre worth ANYTHING, then work youre way up.
Of course, this is just my opinion...

On paper, the RRS is capable of loads like a 5-series Gitzo, but only weighs like a 3-series Gitzo. That's the main advantage.
