You guys who convert RAW with DPP, or any other RAW software for that matter, do you sharpen in the coversion ? I set my sharpening to "2" on my conversion (first time attempting RAW) with a large Family session and things looked kinda grainy to me when blown up to 100%. Just wondering if I shouldn't have used the sharpening. I'm going to try it again with "1", and then with non.

Just wanted to hear from some experience. Thinking about trying RSE also but don't know the program very well.

In my (limited-ish!) experience, I leave it at '0' then USM to suit in PSE. I haven't tried sharpening during conversion, but prefer to be able to see the results before/after if you get me?!

Sharpening with DPP is an option selected as the file is saved, and you don't see the results until after the conversion is done. I prefer to do my sharpening with more comprehensive software like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. You have more options to acheive the effect you want, and can make adjustments and see the results on your monitor before the alteration is saved.

Regardless of the software used, sharpening tends to magnify digital noise, as you noticed. Reducing noise with Noise Ninja or similar software before sharpening will help this.
