Tripod: 190XPROB with markins q10 or 498rc2?

Which head should i get for 190xprob? the markins q10 or 498rc2? or should i save up more to get a carbon fiber tripod with a good head? thanks.

'M10' or 'Q3' are ballheads from Markins, not 'Q10' as stated in the question.

For a 'light weight hiker tripod' I would choose the lighter head, as it better balances (not top heavy) if you sling it over the shoulder with a strap. The question of saving up for carbon fiber is purely a subjective opinion that you must answer for yourself about the cost vs. benefit. You will get divergent opinions from people based upon THEIR biases, but keep in mind that aluminum tripods have been around a very long time and have served many quite well even today, and CF can be a major premium to pay over the same tripod in aluminum.

Actually i dont really need a light tripod since i dont hike but will the 190xpro better off pair with a m10 or a 498rc2?

I think the question should be, which is the better head. I had a 488RC2 on an 055xprob and replaced it with the M10 and now I actually enjoy using a tripod whereas before it was a real PITA. I also replaced the tripod, btw but that is a different dicsussion.

I don't know if the 498 solved the 488's major weakness which was "droop". The plate/clamp system, in comparison seems like it might also be an area lacking rigidity.

The question of Q3 vs. 488RC/498RC is like the choice, "Should I get a Honda Accord or a Chevy Malibu?" How much money do you have, and what level of quality is sufficient for you?

Wilt..u are right. i did some read up on the markins q3 and thinking of pairing with the 190xprob..though. My budget will be around $400? or should i just save up for a better options? maybe get a gitzo or 190cxpro4? I dont think i will using it often but will it be wiser to pay for the best than keep upgrading ?

I used the equivalent of a Manfrotto 055 with a good ballhead for over a decade and a half, before I decided to get a lighter weight set of legs. Are you a hiker? If not a hiker, go with the M10. But if you seldom use a tripod, what is the point of tying up $1000 on a head and set of legs?!

If not a hiker, skip the 190, and get a 055 for stability. If you are a hiker, go with the Q3 for its quality and light weight. If you get the 055, go with the M10. My only Bogen head (Manfrotto) is a large ballhead that I use with my large format studio camera, simply because I don't adjust camera position much, and can tolerate a less smooth ball when it has 15 lbs. of camera which inherently defies small, precise positioning!

im kinda short (165cm) so i assume the 190xprob will suffice? since the markins head is around 10cm so total adds up around 150+cm w/o camera on. Most likely i will be going for 190xprob and markins q3 i guess..what u guys think?

I do. Previously i had the 488RC2, then I had to replace with the Q3 since I decided to use kirk and RRS L-plates/brackets.

A very good travel combo (for me).

none. it's all working fine. i just used the combination few days ago for landscape and some close up shots.

If you can afford the expense of the Markins ball , over and above the expense of the Manfrotto head, get it. Superior movement, superior QR.
