I'm new to the G series, but I'm really enjoying my G11. I spend most of my time on P, M, etc. modes, but occasionally I've tried the auto mode. When I do, I see that the G11 very often chooses Tv as long as 1/15 s. It will sometimes do this without even using the in-camera flash (even when it is set to auto, too). It sometimes flashes the "shaky camera" warning symbol too. (It doesn't seem to use longer than 1/60 in the SCN mode for indoor shots, so that's an option in low light).

My question is, did Canon place so much trust in the quality of their IS system that they believe 1/15 s will give adequate sharpness? My hands aren't particularly steady, and I've always gone with 1/60 s (1/30 if sharpness not an issue) as the limit for handheld shots. Did I read somewhere that the IS system gives 3 stops?
