Read all the reviews and know that many of you here have the lens but would like to know what some your thoughts are. Buying one tomorrow.

Thanks

There's a gallery somewhere on pbase that has a big comparison, a search there or maybe with google should find it :)

I would actually pick the Sigma 24-60.

I have the Tamron. Picture quality is excellent. Build isn't bad, focus is slow by L standards but not bad when compared to other consumer lenses. The focus motor is somewhat noisy.

It has the ability to focus at very short distances which is very handy at times.

Overall I use this lens a lot.

buy both and have a lot of change for the 24-70L.
I had the sigma 24-70 macro but sent it back because of front focussing. I didn't want to fuss with it. Quality control seems much higher with tamron.

I find my Tamron 28-75 focuses a little slower than my 70-200 F2.8 IS, but not much. It might be a little noisier, but I can't think of a single time that focus noise of that level's important, especially given the volume of the 20D shutter.

Don't think you can wrong with either. I had the Tamron and it is a nice lens: has a lighter and more plastic feel, but perfectly acceptable. At the moment, I'd go with the Sigma for the extra on the wide end. Even so, I'd be happy with another Tamron.

THIS (http://www.pbase.com/fstopjojo/lenstests) is the comparison mentioned.

I have the Tamron and love it ... but 4 mm on the wide end are not bad, either. Other than that, both are great lenses, I suppose. The Sigma is about 20% more expensive over here in Europe (420 instead of 300 EUR)

Best regards,
Andy
