Personally I think there's to much of everything but the car. I'd move closer and take a variety of shots from different angles with that lens.

I'd have shot later to avoid the hot spot, & what do you like about the poles in the background?

I'm making use of the lens, shooting closer would not only create distortion and make the car look weird, but would defeat the purpose of using a UWA lens.

I'd have shot later to avoid the hot spot, & what do you like about the poles in the background?

I would have shot later, but I was hungry, and wanted to go eat. Maybe that's why I'm fat...my priorities are screwed up.
I thought about PP them out, but I'm to lazy to put forth that much effort right now. Again, another possible reason to why I am fat.

Why does everything have to be perfect or according to rules???

Hes trying something different. The empty space doesnt bother me at all, I like the shot

I have to agree with aviator you are defeating the purpose of this sharp lens if your focus is the car. Everything else come into play besides the car, looks like some bad ass upgrades though.Did you upgrade the turbos or just do the front mount and piping?

With a lens this wide, DOF is almost non-existant.

What are you trying to say here?

With an UWA lens, you get nothing but DoF. If you shoot at f8 then almost everything will be close to being in focus. That's just the nature of UWA's. This shot could have been done with any number of lenses. Why use a UWA to do something a lot of lenses can do? There's no point in owning it if you are just going to take wide shots from a large distance from the subject. Why not use the lens in a way that only it can make an image?

A simple Canon 28mm f2.8 could have easily made this shot and it wouldn't have cost you as much.

I waited a while for this lens, it was definately worth it. Just in time for spring, now I can start taking rig shots.

I was thinking the opposite, and said the opposite.

Because a lot of lenses can't do what I needed to do for this picture. You assume I was a large distance away....I wasn't, I was no more than 2-4 feet away. This was shot at 11mm.

PJMak is exactly right.

Oh, wait, aren't you the guy who hates his equipment & so never even tries to take a perfect shot?

You are taking what I said and completely transforming it just so you can back your self up in this argument.

What I said is: "Im not satisfied with my stock lens(if you can find someone who has been shooting for a year and still is please let me know)

And when I said I dont try hard, I meant I didnt try hard for that one photoshoot at that time but I still felt like posting it here.

Not every photoshoot has to be perfect, this is what the forum is for. Stop acting like you are the "know it all" guy

Its becoming really annoying imho. Most people shoot for fun, in their mind the shot is perfect and that's all that matters. You see every picture here as a professional entry for a magazine or w\e. Whats the fun in that??

Hey dude, your backhanded way of calling me an ass isn't very well recieved, Shove it!

And you are the one that assumed something. I never once said that you were far off from the car taking your snapshot. I can see the destortion in the front wheel, so obviously you were fairly close. Again, I could have taken a better version of this same framing with my 28mm f2.8 and with no distortion. My point is, you didn't need your UWA lens to achieve these ho-hum results. Unless there was a wall right at your back or something, but I dought that. Why did you get the UWA anyway?

Well you and PJmak can start your own club then. The rest of us will continue to dislike images like this.

For a person who also said, "I wanna make a living doing this one day" (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=8667226&postcount=7), it might be a good idea to learn the rules & have a good reason for breaking them before you advocate breaking them to others?
As for having fun, many people have fun by getting better & seeing their images improve, & someone needs to point out the alternatives to all the "Awesome shot!" comments. If you don't like my comments, then feel free to ignore them. But is that a reason to complain about comments made to someone else who said, "CC welcome."?

OTOH, you're right that not every shot has to be perfect, & I've never said that. What I did say is at the tops of the "Tips" thread.

I assumed nothing. Your quote as follows.
There's no point in owning it if you are just going to take wide shots from a large distance from the subject.
You assumed that I took the pictures from a large distance.

You must have a strange interest/fetish in wanting to know the reason(s) behind someone's purchases. Also along with some kind of fascination with the 28mm lens. If you would have paid more attention you would have already read the reason for my purchase. Also, yes you are correct their was no wall at my back, but their is a main road with lots of traffic. But then again, there you go assuming once again.

'Better' is only a matter of perspective.

I thought requests for CC meant that was the whole idea of posting a shot like this !?! If you dont want to be upset by adverse comment then don't ask for it !! Just pop a shot on and say " only positive comments allowed " or something. I think you learn a lot by others scrutinising your work and commenting accordingly. I bet next time you shoot a similar frame you check for things which have been mentioned in this thread ! No harm done I believe.

CC was given by Photoguy and others, I acknowledged them and responded. ChasWG's post had nothing to do with CC. It was more of a 28mm vs 11-16mm post to a "well I can do better than you with my cheap 28mm than you can."

That is far from CC. I have to agree. Criticism is one thing. CC = Constructive Criticism, & is another.
if there were people standing around on the right or a car in the background on the right, this shot could work. Good point. The shot needs something to provide balance for the car at the left.

AWDTerror- ChasWG is right... you deff dont need no UWA lens for a shot like this...makes no sens to me. you could have shot this with a 28, a 50, a 70-200.... a wide lens just distorts the car....so i agree with him.

PJmak- photosguy knows what he talking about. and you and your bf AWDTerror sound like two lazy dudes who are too lazy to achieve the best results. youve provided about a million excuses to everything. "im too lazy for this" and "i dont have time for that"...why bother then?

seems that people have given you CC before but you are still "too lazy" do do what they have told you to improve in your photos.

PJMac the lazy pijama ninja photographer and AWDTerror the lazy photo terrorist should start their own forum called "Im too lazy to take a good picture forum" and enjoy posting you pointless "new lens" test shots

First, apologies to the OP for our having thoroughly trashed his thread. Some people would have used PMs, but since this is primarily a learning forum, I think having everything out in the open might help some people to learn something new, even if/when they don't particularly agree.

Second, can we get back to commenting on the image now?

dang why cant i get people to C&C pictures i post up, i either get i hate it or wow that is cool. but nothing more and nothing less, i for one wouldnt contend the facts if someone was trying to share their info or critique of one of my photos!

sometimes if we listen to someone that has more experience then use we might learn something if our fingers and our brains read critiques and learn from them and not kick against the goads.

but i agree someone could use some improvement if you are to "make a living" at phototagging...

I know i have tons to learn.
