Should we have a dedicated forum for culinary arts / food photography?

I agree that food photography is much harder than it seems it should be, but I voted 'no' mainly because I think there are too many forums already. I think combining some of the so-called "less popular" subjects works well.

The tried and true way to get a new Subject Section is to simply supply enough images that it becomes obvious that it's necessary.

As a chef who has just started playing with DSLR, I think it would be a great thing.

I love food, and play around with cooking myself, but I can't see any need for a dedicated forum at this time. Perhaps if we attract enough people with that interest, and the amount of traffic makes the need for such a forum obvious, it will happen. We're nowhere close to that point, though.

Okay, Dan, I consider myself rebuked. Besides, my side is losing in the poll.

This is the 5th thread in the past six months to make this request. Unfortunately, though, there just aren't the photographs to warrant it. If you want to see this happen, you need more than a "Gee, this would be nice". You need activity. That's why Birds was split from Nature and Wildlife. That's why Kids & Family and Weddings were split from People, and that's why Motorsports was split from Sports. They were making up a significant part of the threads in those parent forums.

Unless and until Food photographers start making a significant showing in the forums here, it isn't going to happen. Being vocal isn't enough. You need to be active. You need to demonstrate that there are a significant number of active and prolific food photographers anxious to show their work here.

Tis true, we had a bit of a clamor for a dedicated underwater forum, I started a thread to build up the numbers (HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=650197)) and to date we have clearly demonstrated that there really is not the demand (256 posts in a year) . Suggest one of you "Foodies" do the same.

Dan, yours look good enough to eat :-)
