Using Firefox 3.5.8 I have just tried to post my first (AFAIK) photo here. I posted to the transport section I cannot: - attach images either by the Manager or paperclip or the importer mountain thingy for offsite hosting and hot linking - use smileys - get any italics bold etc - save my paragraphs None of the surrounding buttons works In short the posting pane for me is a text editor that loses paragraphs.. :( that smiley is because I know the text for that smiley. ;) I have asked technical questions and had similar trouble, and when I asked about it, it was never resolved to my knowledge. Help? Nick

Sounds like JavaScript is not on. I think you should clear you browser cache, and check that you have Javascript enabled in your browser.
And please download and install Firefox 3.6: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

OK I will DL FF3.6 but I have auto update on and I have not been asked. Java is on. I have maybe 4 other v-bulletin forums running with no trouble. I see stuff OK and when I post the quotes are all OK. All smileys are fine and I can embed pictures by whatever means I choose. At the moment your message looks like a mess. none of the quotes are right. They all show html code and not the wisiwyg I expect. Here is the text I get email; "Sounds like JavaScript is not on. I think you should clear you browser cache, and check that you have Javascript enabled in your browser. Sorry. This site turns all my input to non-formatted text. I cannot use any buttons/icons on the post "pain". I have no smileys (they are on in my options), no mountain icon, no paperclip icon, no I italics, no underline I have text input that loses its formatting when I post. hencethestreamedandbreaklessinpuitthatyousee ididnotstartthis

That's a problem with your browser, cache, or JavaScript. Clear the cache, then restart the computer and come back in.

What does this exactly mean: "I have text input that loses its formatting when I post"? Do you paste text there from some application?
Once more, please clear your browser's cache, here's how it is done in Firefox:
Go to some site other than POTN, select "Tools -> Clear Recent History", select from menu "Time range to clear": Everything, make sure that "Cache" and "Cookies" are ticked ON and click "OK".
Make sure that "Tools -> Options -> TAB: Content -> Enable Javascript" is ticked ON.
When you reply to post, do you see the text area where you can type text?
Can you type text into that area?
Can you select text with your mouse and does e.g. clicking "B" button add tags around selected text like in this is my text?
What happens when you click "Preview Post" button?
Thank you for your paticence!

No. When I input text in the message pane, I have paragraphs and stuff. But when I actually post the message, it comes out all in a stream as you (EDIT: could) see it in my posts.
OK. Clearing the history worked. Thank you. All the icons and smileys are Ok now.
Can you explain:
- why this was fixed by History?
- how come it's only here and not at any number of other v-bulletin forums that I have been to in the last days?
Thanks
Nick

Each site has its own browser cache items, the cached data does not share same file names, that would be a big security issue.
Sometimes, e.g. when internet connection is shaky, a file can be downloaded as damaged and cache does not know that. It just keeps feeding the same damaged file when you load the page. There are techniques to make browsers skip caching certain files, but on a site this large that would create millions of practically unneeded file loads.
Javascript errors, when a damaged .js file is loaded, do not usually manifest in any other way than missing features and buttons that do not do what they are supposed to.
Glad in was solved. Have a nice day!

Thank you! I really appreciate your time to explain. I do know enough to pretty well understand what you are saying as well! :)
