Sorry for another dog pic. --but I shot at a dog trial last weekend --so I have hundreds of pics to choose from! :D
This is a phase of the dog trial--and also a well executed one at that --called the single. The dog and handler separate one sheep from the rest of the group and hold it back. This would be used in practical work--ie. if you wanted to take this sheep away for medication or some other reason. Sorry for the "proof"

Hi Bloo Dog,
Yes, those are border collies. We had a competition locally that brought dogs in from Calif, Ore, Wa, and Canada. I competed with one of mine dogs too--he is young and pretty inexperienced, but I was pleased with how he worked.
The World Trials for this type of competition are being held this week in Ireland---Competitors from all over Europe and the UK, including for the first time North Americans!
Wish I was there to watch!
