I went out tonight for a little fireworks practice (day before the 4th). When I got back home and started processing I noticed lots of noise in some of the PSCS2 Camera Raw's, so I tied Rawshooter to see if there was any difference. I did have the in camera noise correction (CF 12) turned on for all of these.
The first image is from PSCS2 with all auto settings, the second is from Rawshooter with default settings.
Both are 100% crop, no processing. I wonder if there are any other experiences like this out there?

Auto settings are quite different from default settings, so it's not a fair comparison. Photoshop CS2 RAW, however, is completely crap at noise reduction. I use the Noise Ninja plugin, and I disable all the built in CS RAW stuff.
That 2nd image looks way over-processed to my eye, it's what happens if you apply too much noise reduction. With fireworks you can usually get away with shooting ISO 100/200, so you should be able to avoid making the noise in the first place.

Actually they both look like crap hehe.
The second image was default "as shot" settings brought into PS as a tiff, then cropped and saved. No processing or sharpening. I was surprised at the difference.

Here's a stock DPP crop from the same .cr2:

I'm confused now.. in the first post there are two images.
In the first post you say that the second is RSE,..
In the post above you say the second image is PS... ?

All the same .cr2. The first two images in the first post are #1: PSCS2 Camera Raw; second image is Rawshooter, then the third image in the later post is from DPP.
I pretty much opened the raw in each app, then sent it directly to PS with default settings for cropping and jpg'ing.
All are 100% crops, no other processing, and default settings on each respective software. I did find out that PSCS2 can do a much better job manual than when using auto as in this example.

When use the CS2 auto setting with the very dard back ground like the above pic, it will try to correct the exposeure to +3 or somewhere in that range. Turn off the auto setting, you will see what I mean.
