Hey Guys,
So, I've searched the forums but really can't seem to find the information I am looking for.

I have an opportunity to buy a used RS60E3 for my Canon EOS Rebel XSi. However, I was inside a local Henry's and they informed me that the remote will not work with my XSi and that I would need a wireless one.

My question is, will that remote in fact work with my XSi? If it does work, should I pick it up or should I get the RC-1?

Which is better in your opinion.

Both the RC-1 and the RS60E3 work with the Xsi. The RC-1 is an infrared remote which must be pointed at the front of the camera body. The RS60E3 is a wired remote that plugs into the camera body. Both allow you to do bulb exposures as well as conventional exposures.

Like Beachcomber Joe said, the RS60E3 will work just fine on the XSi. Canon lists it as one of the available accessories here (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=16307#SNAModelSuppliesAct). It's also listed on p. 164 of your XSi manual. Can't get much more authoritative than that.

Thank you very much...I have decided on the wired remote vs the wireless. Apparently there are quite a few limitations on the wireless remote.

I also read that all you need to do is connect a 3.5mm headphone cable to extend the distance of the remote. Is there any truth to this?

Yes, as long as it's a stereo headphone extension cord.
