Hello,

After reading the interesting posts regarding RAW files, I decided to take a couple shots in RAW format. I used Downloader to download from my CF card reader and then used BB to convert from RAW format to TIF format. Once the image is saved as a TIF image, is it possibe to then save a copy as a JPEG file? I'm using PhotoShop LE and the only options I have for saving a copy of a TIF file is, as another TIF or in PhotoShop format. If I'm saving a copy of a JPEG file I have lots of options. Do I need to upgrade to 'Elements' to be able to do this?

If I use the automatic email attachment tool in BB and attach a TIF file, it will automatically be prepared for email by converting the file to a JPEG file and paste the file in the body of the message. So I guess BB does have the capability of converting from TIF to JPEG but the email tool is the only tool I can find for doing this. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Doug,

In Photoshop, click File, Save As (rather than Save) and you'll have the JPG option. Or maybe it's File, Save a Copy. This is from memory but it should be one of those.

Stay warm,

Don

Don,

Thanks for the reply. I tried again with the same results. I am offered just two options, save in TIF format or PhotoShop format. Doesn't matter if I do a 'Save As' or a 'Save Copy'. I'm using PhotoShop LE which came with my camera. Could this limited edition be the problem?

Doug: I am only familiar with the full blown PhotoShop, but perhaps you have limited options because you have done something to the image, such as created a layer, or done some editing action that prevents PSE from savings as a JPG. To save as a JPG the image must be "flat" in one layer, 8 bits, etc. If it contains anything fancy like layers, the only formats that can maintain the layers, etc are PSD or TIF.

Perhaps this helps

gandini,

Thank you very much. I had been converting my RAW image files to 16 bit TIF. I did as you suggested and converted a couple to 8 bit TIF and have all the file options for saving available to me now.

Thanks again,
Doug
