View of Downtown San Francisco taken from Twin Peaks during trip last week. Pointed tower in upper left is Transamerican Building; domed building below and to right is City Hall. At the right, Market Street can be seen all the way to the bay. The small tower at its end is the old Ferry Building.

Nice shot of the city. I lived there for almost two years and don't remember anything with that perspective.

I've been there numerous times, but never found that view. Good shot.

Take Market street heading west. There are some neighborhoods (Twin Peaks I believe) where you can get this kind of vista. Another interesting neighborhood is Portrero Hill where you get the back side of the city. Lots of hills in S.F. and vistas from every one. I really like Pacific Heights as the view is nice and the homes are amazing. I was at the Green room at the Herbst theater last night and wish I had my camera. A great shot of City Hall (across the street) with a full moon.

One can get fairly close via the bus routes. We took route 44 south of Golden Gate Park and then transfer to Route 36. Tell the bus driver you want to go to Twin Peks and he will let you kow when to get off. You will be about 1/4 mile from Twin Peaks (all uphill!!). Go up the hill until you encounter an unmarked foot path along the side of a small reservoir. Take the footpath and it will lead you to the observation area at Twin Peaks. For the best view, dont stop there but climb the peak to the rear of the observation area. The panoramic view is absolutely awesome. You can see from the Pacific Ocean to the west around to the Golden Gate Bridge, one into downtown (subject of above shot) and down into the south bay region. We would never have gone there if the bus driver hadn't seen our camera bags and recommended it to us. He certainly steered us right. We got some awesome photos up there.

Shot from the end of Market St, looking straight towards Twin Peaks. Didnt' come out quite as desired, but what can one do! In retrospect, should've pushed to the front of the crowd. It would've been similarly useful to have a tripod...
