Trip to France

I'm going on a trip to France with my high school French class this summer, and I'm planning to bring my XSi, my nifty-fifty and the kit lens. I'm hoping to add one more lens, preferably with some reach, to my kit before I go. Being a student, I have a limited budget of <300$ and I'm hesitant to buy used because I'd fear getting scammed. If you could recommend a good, affordable lens that would be good for this, I'd really appreciate it!

for that money, look into the Canon 55-250...plenty of reach and would compliment your existing gear nicely...
