I am not yet able to afford a studio so I went to this very large empty room at my school and took some shots of my gf trying to make the background go black by having her as far away from the background as i could. Trying to use an umbrella but it kept spilling to the background alot so i used bare OCF.

Nice picture, i really like it.
Only one criticism, is her hand cut off. This makes the bracelets a little distracting.

Solid result - very stylish. Having light on her right eyelid certainly creates some dramatic tension, and looking down and away like that is nicely moody. Lighting's just a little harsh, and agree the hand's distracting - but not too bad for being shadowed. Positioning of forearms around the scarf works in well with the light on her face... very nicely arranged all up.
Cheers,
Tony

PC Thug: I see what you are saying about the hand cut off. I have a tendency to forget about that when I'm totally focused on getting something else right. I will pay more attention to that next time.
Tonydee: I tried to use my shoot through 45" umbrella to soften the light but did not like the results too much in that room. It spilled over to the background too much and I didnt feel comfortable photoshoping that much of the background in fear of the halo effect around the outline of the body. I will have to find a better technique to do it than just using bare flash.
Thanks to both of you. Im still learning about lighting in general and usually I stick to outdoor lighting but decided to try indoor this time and I really like the results for a first try.
