Twelve months ago I posted my first shots in the Motorsport thread Click Here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=635862)

It has taken me twelve months but I went back again to three sisters today for another go. Today I decided to concentrate on trying to convey speed in the shot by panning with the karts.

It is a lot harder than it sounds (well a lot harder for me). As not only are the karts moving laterally, they are bouncing like crazy as well. Compared to last time I was there the light was not great so I also had to increase the ISO.

I am busy looking at and filtering out my keepers, liked this shot and thought I would share it.

I think I managed to convey the speed in this shot and keep the kart in focus. Still looks a bit soft around the helmet to me.

How did I do. I am thick skinned. All C&C welcome.

A second shot.

The kart and driver are sharper, but, I am not sure it conveys the same sense of speed.

2nd shot is much better, 1st looks like a very shallow depth of field thus rendering it OOF

I agree with what you say about the second being better for sharpness. Although the first was at f11 and 1/60 and the second at f8 and 1/200 (both same ISO)

Second pic is definitely the better of the 2. The sense of speed is conveyed in the wheel blur and drivers position in the kart.

I think I may have stopped and chatted with you. I was the Nikon shooter testing the 300 prime.

I am one and the same person. So its wrong what they say, Nikon users are nice guys after all :)

So will you be buying the lens you were trying out?

I left shortly after you went for lunch, despite being wrapped up I was frozen. Not sure I could have lasted all day, as you were planning to do.

2nd on for me too!

3 sisters is brilliant... i had an absolute ball when i went a year os so ago! Qualified 2nd and came 2nd to last due to trashing the rear axle!

Not sure about buying yet, ultimately I'd love the Nikon version but funds don't allow but the Sigma is a very able performer.
We managed to last till about 3 o'clock and left as the light was fading.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I have to agree #2 the kart and driver are sharper. However, I prefer shot #1 - too me it conveys more speed.

Hangover permitting, I may go back again this Sunday, BSSMC are holding a race meeting.
