Bit of a last minute decision to head up to Bournemouth for the Rallye Sunseeker friday evening, had a quick look around to find some places to shoot and come up with the 3 below locations, Not the best for light as the two were under the trees in the dark and glum!

Great rally and even the weather held off apart from the early morning soaking in Stage 1 doh!
Right a few photos..

Impressive collection of pics there, the Focus, Metro and Mini shots are particularily well nailed, nice sharp detailed action shots, well captured despite it being very murky looking tin there. Good series enjoyed viewing.

Thanks for the comments everyone it is really nice, i'm like a big kid well still sort of a kid as most know lol but when i log in to view the comments on my work it really gets me excited, Just a shame about the lack of comments on all the forums compared to the years gone by :-(

Daniel, Technique for the first shot was all manual shutter speed to 1/125th aperture to 6.3, ISO was 320 and i had the flash set to 1/16 at 24mm and panned along with the car this being the first shot and there are 6 others of him going around the hairpin. Hope that helps?

Evening Jon,
Looks like you had a great time,as I did,superb event I reckon.

I have noticed your pics of late have a very dark feel about them, with lots of shadow ,and almost like there is too much contrast and over post processed look to them.

They do look better on here larger than TP.

The action in them is superb with great shutter speeds, and some killer angles.

The Bird,Metro and Mini shots are lovely but too me they look like they are wearing too much make up ,if you follow my drift.

Regards,
Pons

Not sure where i am going wrong Pons?
My calibrated monitor is a tad warmer than the laptops but this can't make me see them that much different from anyone else with a proper calibrated screen?

Only thing that i really did in processing them was add a touch of contrast to take away any greyish in some of the photos between 5 and 13 in some cases. Some shots have about 3 sat added and a small amount of sharpening for web. The bird shot.. I did burn the windscreen a bit as the reflection was so bad.

When you say about the dark feel about them do you mean the backgrounds maybe?? If so i think this may be more because this year i am trying to nail the exposures and everything straight from the camera rather than having to naff about with the in PS too much and they way i have been able to bang the exposure of the car sometimes does leave the backgrounds darker so i achieve the correct exposure on the cars.. I could spend ages in PS using the dodge tool on the backgrounds like most people do but don't really have them time lol

I'd say out of the above on my calibrated screens the only one that looks a bit odd is the micra shot as there is a hinge of grey in it.

Not sure how to explain any more really? not quite the same shooting the cars under the very dark trees as it is in the sunlight as you know :P

What would you do to make them better? open to ideas..

Jon.S

Hi Jon,
Well I dont know about your monitor, and I appreciate your comments about getting right in camera.
I did lighten the Bird shot and that improved it ,bringing out the car and background.
One thing I have had to do this year after the Wyedean is invest in a 77mm Nikon Circular Polarisor because of diabolical windscreen glare ,and that has really helped ,that said my camera ,D700 ,will handle higher isos if it is gloomy, but on Sunseeker,I put it on very quickly when I realised I had a problem again ,early on, and when I got to Wareham stage my Steve Perez shots were no good ,as the setting had moved when in transit, correcting it ,really helped.
My ps skills are pretty rubbish, but do find levels and curves very helpful, shadows and lights being adjusted where neccessary.

What I could not see was any histograms as info was removed, and I try to shoot just to the right of centre now, pulling back a wee bit if needed, rather than the other way ,which introduces noise.

Am no expert mate, but did have a 1dmk2 which was really good and exposed really well so will chat to you at Epynt ,that said ,light is not an issue there, but exposure is tricky because of background sky.

My CP will be on all day .

Talk soon, got to get ready for work !

Pons

Cheers Pons.
Yeah think tour will be cack same route used all day just reversed in pm.

When you get time could you do the edits and post them here? I'll look at them on all the calibrated monitors then.
I see that the wyedean ones were a bit darker but can't see it in some others. Also find it strange that the same 3 people only see this so could be their monitors need a fresh calibration? No offence intended there! Just a thought given i and lots of others i have spoken to and those who have commented don't all see this too..
Malcolm Wilson this weekend pal?
