Hi,
I will buy a 10-22 week and being a beginner how do I tell if mine is good quality and sharp (as i read that there have been some reports of not very sharp ones)
Also Im in china were I dont want to have to return anything as China is not a place that is known for customer service!
Regards,
Simon

Let the store have you use the lens on your camera and take some pictures with it. Then look at them at home and if you're ok with it, go back and buy.

It would be very difficult to take pictures in a store and then expect those to tell you how it performs in real life. Now, if you could take it outside and do something like you might actually use it for........

Well, there's some things you can tell shooting inside, like distortion and (if you have a tripod or can otherwise stop down a bit), sharpness across the field. You can even set up a basic focus test if you like. But if you're going to shoot outdoors, it's best to get it outside of the store to check it. That way, you'll see how well it deals with flare, CA, color, and contrast.
Many shops will let you shoot out in front of the shop, but you may have to leave something of value at the counter, or they may walk out with you (unless they really know you).
