Yes, the moon really did look that orange.

Beautiful moon tonight. Great photo as well. The moon had that color in St. Louis tonight as well. I was downtown shooting the arch and saw the moon. I couldn't get set up for a moon and arch shot tonight, but am planning to try it tomorrow.

Its amazing how small it makes the Capitol look, great shot!
According to the ruler tool in Google Earth I was 3.25 miles from the dome and 1.84 miles from The Stick. The distance really gives it a great perspective.
