it was between that and the 17-40 L and i really can't justify the price difference for the L for faster focus and a better build. the optics on the tamron seem very good from my quick test in the store and the focus is fast enough and not loud at all. plus it is a stop faster at 17mm :D

Awesome! Let us all know how it is when you get it. I almost went with that lens because of it's price too, but I wanted the fixed apeture and extra 5mm.:-) Enjoy it! Wide angle lenses rock!

after rebate i am into my tamron 17-35 about $450. i now see this lens on ebay brand new for $365. that's one hell of a deal. great lens.

i have heard of very few problems with this lens and tamron has a 6-year warranty if you buy from an authorized dealer.

Congrats. its a great lens. I sold my 17-40L and went with the Tamron for weddings, needing the faster lens for low light shooting. Pair it with the Tamron 28-75 and you have a awesome lens combo.

the 28-75 isn't on the radar screen....i have the 50mm 1.8 i could bring along for some more reach.
