The DOF is very shallow, leaving no actual petalled flower fully in focus. A smaller appeture is needed to get more in focus. Plus there is no part of that flower as the subject area, no point that stands out to look at.

You were SO close! The central bloom is almost sharp enough to carry this off. If you watch it during the day, maybe the sun would highlite that part of the plant enough to separate it? Or, you could put up a card with a hole in it to get that effect. ;)
