Well, the way I do it is, I get as close as I can to my subject, then I focus, take the pic in the higest resoultion, then do my post prcessing, crop what I want, then I resize it to 800x600 for the forums, the pic you posted, I cannot make out what it is unless I saw the original, I am no expert I am still learning myself,

Hope you dont mind but I did some post processing on it, I would have focused on a more selected part of the flower like one bud, or the flower itself, But here is what I did a few adjustments and a little sharpen filter,
