First off, I want to thank all of the people that replied to my last post. I can't tell you how cool it is to get real feedback. Finally a forum that hasn't been reduced to a classified ad for porn. Anyway, I've been shooting a bit over the last two days (with my D60) and wanted to get some feedback. Please feel free to laugh......really I don't mind (tear) :-)

I like the shot of the glass. I'm not sure how to critique this type of photo. I've seen some excellent ones posted here that were similar. I too played with this type of shot but was unsuccessful at achieving any half decent results.
It does seem tho that your shot could be a little less on lighting and try for some more shadow. That's what I would have tried. There are people here that know this type of photo well and will have better input.

Hi and welcome to Pekka's friendly site
The D60 of course is a wonderful camera and I'd love to have one.
However, even a good camera requires you to do your part to obtain good images. It is after all just a tool.
You still have to do the basic things well.
eg. 1.Avoid camera shake .......... a possible cause of the unsharp bear.
2. Compose carefully.
Your shot of the glass is well done with seamless and graded background.
It is usually not successful though to have the glass
"standing" on the base of the image.
For completeness have a little space below the glass
(or any other object).
The contents are a mystery. If the stuff in the glass
is the main point of the image then it should be in close-up and don't worry about showing the whole glass.
If this is an exercise in esthetic composition simply use colored water or wine in the glass.
3. Back to the bear. When you see part of the face
ursine or human in heavy shadow use fill flash.
That will also give a hi-light sparkle in the eyes.
The camel is well timed. Again flash would help to separate it from the artificial background.
A tighter crop might help give the shot more impact too.
Have fun and post again soon

I'd love to say it's something cool, like blood or something......but it's just a drop of red food coloring.

I always liked shots like the "glass" shot. Can you please tell me how to get the backround white and the floor white, thats something I have been dying to learn but I'm not able to figure out how to do that, with the correct lighting and so on.
