The bone spoiles it for me. Other than the bone it would have been a good capture. Excellant exposure and focus.
If the image were mine, I would clone the bone away and crop some off the left border. Thee remaining bokeh would really make subject pop.

I agree with midnitejam about the bone but otherwise a great 'first flash' shot.

Haha no way, I love the bone. Makes it unique and gives it character, IMHO!

Congrats on your new toy!!
...what about killing some of the available light to darken the background? The light from the flash would make your subject stand out even more.

Being a Dog Lover.I would leave it as is! I know the trials and tribulations of getting a dog to look at the camera one on one! Great everything..What a beaut of a GR....
An aside.cloning out the treat makes this another dog looking out of frame......this way.we SEE what the dog is looking at....

I appreciate the photo the way you shot it. Perfect that the animal is in focus with the bone blurrred. Allows you to focus on the object of the image. Nicely done. Great close-up.

U know what? For me the bone made the shot. I thought it was going to be just another simple dog piture until i seen the bone. It really added to the picture for me and made me enjoy it.
I really like the fact that the dog is sitting there waiting for u to hand him the bone which is out of focus and u cant see it rite away. Turned a simple shot into a kinda story teller.
Nice shot!
