I downloaded the latest firmware update (the 20D00200.FIR file for Macintosh computers) along with the PDF file for the instructions on how to accomplish the update from the 1.1.1 version supplied with the 20D body. I double-checked the size of the updater file as recommended and it matched precisely. I followed the instructions for accomplishing the update to the letter. I even removed the lens from the body, even though the instructions did not require that.
Everything went swimmingly until the Updating Progress window on the camera locked up at "94% Done". The screen also has a cryptic warning "DO NOT turn off power switch or touch any buttons" I'll leave the camera with the power on and attempting to complete the update overnight, but I expect that the freshly-charged battery that I had in the camera will be run down by morning. What happens then? Can I go back to using the older version of the firmware, or am I "stuck" somewhere in-between with an inoperable camera?
Help, PLEASE!

Please disregard my appeal for help show above. The battery in my 20D did finally run down while the updater was "stuck" on 94%. I put in my spare battery and I was lead back to an upgrade sequence that this time ran all the way to completion. The new firmware is installed--after a scary hour or so--and the 20D appears to be operating OK. If anyone would like to comment on what happened, I'd sure like to know. I'll be very hesitant with firmware uopdates in the future based on this experience!
