Macro of eyes

A makeup artist is asking me to make pics of his work. He specializes in eye makeup. Does anyone have tips and tricks (esp. on proper lighting) to make great eye shots ? I will have my 100mm f4 on my 40D, if useful have a 580EX which I can use offshoe with an extension cord.
